In response to Permanence, Transience arose as an investigation into the inherent ephemerality of humanity in the scope of geologic time, both as individuals and as a species. These photographs emphasize infrastructure’s relationship with ecology in places that I occupied momentarily. By contrasting the natural and built environment, this work calls attention to how humans choose to modify space in an effort to cement a legacy that extends beyond themselves. As an artist, I am not exempt from this yearning—my photographs reflect an endeavor to be memorialized.
